2020 Fish Photos ... La Jolla Edition ... Limits of Vermilion Rock Fish

Welcome to 2020 were all my fish photos will show me wearing a mask for posterity.

I brought a longtime friend to kayak fish La Jolla for his very first time, hoping to get him on a Yellowtail.

We launched at grey light and got out past the reserve and started looking for bait.

Brown mud water, yuck. I saw bait on the fish finder but no takers today. I saw no one else catch bait nor any yellowtail.

I had a backup plan to put my friend on fish. I brought market fresh squid to do some rock fishing.

On our way out to the rock fishing grounds we saw a small school of yellowtail finning in the brown mud water. Rolled up on them and spooked them. Cool to see anyway.

We get to my first waypoint at 160 feet and see a few marks and get a couple of fish. Looked around for an hour picking up fish. Searched more and found and marked a huge school of rockfish.

We dropped down and finished our limits of Vermilion Rock on that spot. All quality size.

Get out there now guys before the New Seaforth starts up again to hits the spot all day every day

We have had two meals for four with these super tasty fish. Even my 12-year-old who hardly ever eats fish loved the rockfish.

The two meals were Fish and Chips and then Fish Sandwiches.

Be safe in 2020, Chris
