Favorite plastic lures for bays
Took my son out for a couple 'firsts' today in Mission Bay. It was his first fishing experience and my first time fishing a bay (from a kayak). We both had fun but only a mackerel to show for our efforts.
I've fished La Jolla for years and today realized I know very little about fishing bays. Would love to hear what lures you like for bays? Thanks! |

For Mission Bay... 3-4" swimbaits or grubs on your favorite 3/8-1/2oz weedless lead head. Or better yet dropshot a fluke type plastic, same weight. Smear your favorite scent on there and hold on.

some of the most consistent, LEGAL halibut I've seen caught were on a pack of grubs that looked like this

The small hook-up baits definitely get bit. Try more towards the coves and a little farther back in the bay.
