It depends on the racks and the straps. Usually the racks won't make much noise when something is strapped down to them, but the straps themselves can vibrate horribly at higher speeds. If that's the cause of your noise, try twisting the straps before you cinch them down. This is one of those cases where doing it perfectly is not what you want to do.

usually the noise comes from the air passing through the scupper holes try putting scupper plugs or a rag thats what i do and it works fine

You won't get rid of all the wind noise. You just have to tune the vehicle/yak combo until you get something you can live with.
My yak whistles like crazy when it is mounted directly on the center of my rack. If I move it over a foot I can hardly hear it. Of course; you could just roll up your windows and it won't seem a loud.

You'll hear the wind at higher speeds, that's normal.
Cranking up the radio helps.

A good way to cut down on wind noise is to not transport the kayak anywhere...theres no more fish in San Diego. lol Twisting the straps like esdees said is a good noise reducer.
Welcome NJV305, just as a disclaimer: Kayak Fishing can be extremely habit forming and addictive!!! Be careful! Evan |
