Oceanside Sunday
Hit the water just after 6:00am from the Harbor and headed South to the pier. Massive schools of Anchovies everywhere and occasional schools of perfect greenbacks, bait is everywhere out there.
Paddled around the pier with one down on the slider and another flylined. After about an hour the reel starts singing my favorite tune from the flyline. I casually reel in the downrig knowing that the fish is secure on the circle hook and it ain't going anywhere. Got the cameras rolling and look back to see a Thresher tail waving at me a little ways back. Okay, I know I'm in for a battle now. Well, not really, she swims right to me and goes directly under the yak and heads strait down. I pull on her for about 5 minutes and the line snaps at the swivel. No aerial show, no long sleigh ride, nothin'. Oh well, I was going to release it anyways. Spent the day paddling form the harbor to the pier, then to the AR2 for about an hour and then back to the pier for the rest of the day and coasted back into the Harbor by 2:00. 8 hours of paddling and my wings are soar. Lot's of nice marks between the Harbor and the Pier but nothing between the Harbor and the AR2. Oh well, Time on the water. I've got to get out to Carlsbad but the surf has just been to mean this season.
