LJ 1/14/17 my first Yellowtail
Peddled out around sunrise. Managed to get quite a few big mackerel (12" approx) on a flatfall in around 140' near the bottom. No action on the sabiki at any depth. First time at LJ I've had more than 2 baits the entire day, in maybe 6-8 trips over the last 6 months.
Got bitten off (25lb flouro leader) once by something strong, then switched to 40lb, then taken by the dogs twice around 10am (saw them coming) which was a rush of adrenaline. Then around noon my reel went vrooom! I was waiting for the twang/snap and the disappointing loss of tension but it never happened. After about 10 minutes I got a glimpse and managed land this without screwing things up. My first YT and my personal best fish Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Congrats on your first Yellow Tail. Nice looking fish. You'll never forget your first and it will taste the best. The first Yellow tail on a kayak is kind of like the first sex you ever had, you'll never forget it!

SWEET!!!
Congrates on getting out there and staying with it. I still remember my first YT from the yak (not so long ago), and it was probably the best fish of my life...

Nice first yellowtail. I like the idea of fishing for bait with jigs. Flatfalls, butterfly jigs and knife jigs, can all be deadly for yellowtail and other big species. So while you are fishing for bait, you are definitely also fishing for the bigger species as well.
