The Sportfishing Conservancy updates
Just received this Email, and thought to share it.
Cast Nets, one small step . . . Cast Nets: In June The Sportfishing Conservancy petitioned California's Fish and Game Commission to allow the recreational use of cast nets for fishing in marine waters south of Point Conception. Last week the Commission voted to refer our request for regulatory change to the Department of Fish and Wildlife for review. That's good news as it gets us one step closer. From here DFW will look at the biological impacts and then make a recommendation back to the Commission. It's a slow process but we are closer to achieving equal footing with northern California anglers. Marine Resources Committee - The next MRC meeting had been scheduled for November 17 in Sacramento. The Commission has changed the meeting date to November 11 and the location to the DFW Regional office in Los Alamitos. We'll let you know what's on the agenda when it is published. No Motor Tournament - The 7th Annual No Motor Tournament is on for Saturday October 15 in Carpinteria. We will kick things off and hold the "weigh in" at Danny's Deli on Carpinteria Avenue. As always there will be an awesome array of prizes including a special, fishing equipped, stand up paddle board. Tournament proceeds will be directed to habitat restoration in the Carpinteria Salt Marsh as always. Stop by Danny's, Hook, Line and Sinker in Santa Barbara or log onto www.sportfishingconservancy.org for more details. Tight lines, Tom |
