Poo at Glorietta Bay

PORTIONS OF GLORIETTA BAY IN CORONADO
CLOSED TO WATER CONTACT DUE TO SEWAGE SPILL
Sewage contaminated signs have been posted at the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch, Glorietta Bay Park beach and at access points adjacent to the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill
An estimated 3,725 gallon sewage spill occurred on August 23rd at about 12:00 pm at two locations in Coronado adjacent to Glorietta Bay. While a contractor was working on a sewer system construction project for the City of Coronado, a pump became overwhelmed causing sewage to surface in several locations. Approximately 200 gallons of sewage was recovered by work crews and 575 gallons of sewage flowed out of a manhole adjacent to the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill and entered Glorietta Bay. In addition, 3,000 gallons of sewage flowed out of two manholes adjacent to the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch and entered Glorietta Bay adjacent to Glorietta Bay Park beach. As a result, areas of Glorietta Bay within 500 feet of the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill and 1,000 feet of the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch have been closed to water contact. Water quality samples are being collected at these locations to assess sewage impacts. Signs warning of sewage contamination have been posted at access points near the Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill, at the Glorietta Bay Boat Launch, and Glorietta Bay Park beach. Signs will remain in place until samples confirm that water is no longer impacted.

For more information, please contact Janine Zuniga with the City of Coronado at (619) 522-7340.

For updates on beach closure information please visit the Beach Water Quality website at www.sdbeachinfo.com or call the hotline at (619) 338-2073.

Looks like Team Sewer is taking a road trip to the south.
