El Nino
Is it over, I'm seeing reports of cooler water than I saw last winter, seems to me it should be getting warmer right now.

From what I've read Harry, the scientist have said we are already in an El Nina transition. That's down towards the equator though, not sure how long it takes to effect us up here though.

Went fishing last Sat and water temp was 64 at Dana Point. I looked at surf reports and wind and tides were coming in from the north so definitely cooler water temps which totally sucks as I was hoping for fishing into October seeing I just got into kayak fishing.

A couple of weeks ago the water was still 70 so it looks like the Humboldt current is bringing cold water down again. I don't know what this will do to the big fish like yellow tail and tuna but I think we still should be able to catch rock fish

Today my Lowrance in the water transducer was reading 70.4 at 6am and got up to 72.3 later after the sun had been up for awhile.

This is not a kayak fishing report, but as it relates to this discussion, I thought that I'd weigh in here. I was out on a day and a half on the Islander charter trip on Friday and for 28 guys my we only caught 24 tuna total. The fish were scattered and apparently none of the boats were finding any kind of quantity of fish. According to the crew, it had been very slow fishing for about a week. We were all wondering if the El Niño was over and if the water temp was dropping.
When we go to the dock on Saturday morning, the long range boats had just gotten in and were unloading their catch. They had huge bluefin, but I'm guessing that they were much farther south than where the local boats were going.

Thanks Dannowar, it is going to be next week before I can get out again anyway so I hope it will start warming up.
