Anyone know anything bout yellowtail and worms

Ended up on a private boat this morn
Went out to Catalina and caught a yellow
We cleaned it up at my friends house
There was a bunch of worm lookin things in it
Up by the heart area
Didn't think to take a pic of it
Woulda been smart to take one
Then you guys could see what I'm talking about
So I point it out to my friend
He doesn't know if it's normal or not
But he says it's cool as long as we freeze it
He says he's gonna just freeze it and sashimi his fillet
Says if it is worms then that'll kill em
I'm a little unsure
Wanted to sashimi it till I saw what I saw
Looked like half of its guts were worm like
Anyways don't feel like sashimi anymore
Is this normal
Is it safe to eat if I throw it on the grill
Or is that just what their guts look like
Only other yellows I've caught have been on charters
They gutted em for me
And I never payed any attention to the guts
So I got my fillet on ice in the fridge
Not sure what to do with it
Don't wanna feed it to my family till I get some info
Thanks everyone

There are parasites in most if not all fish, I always find them in halibut. Just pull them out and you'll be fine, no need to go all CSI on this. Every so often I miss one and end up vacuum sealing it with the fillet, I end up finding it when I get ready to cook the fish, I just pull it out and move on.

Still workin on my accent
Harry Hill
Yup pretty much
Big cluster but not moving
Dave Legacy
I remember reading an article here bout it
Anywhere from a few months to maybe a year ago
Tried to use the search on it
But for some reason search wasn't workin at all yesterday
Jorluivil
What kind of vacuum sealer you use and recommend
I'm interested in pickin one up
Be nice to package em right
For my own freezer
And for friends and family
Papadave
Should I wear a tinfoil hat when I cook em up
YakDout & taggermike
That's exactly what they were
That helped a lot
Thanks
Appreciate it

A laughable moment indeed
Maquinapescado
We did this afternoon
Cut the fillet in half
Threw some house seasoning and herbs on it
Few lemon slices on top and threw it under the broiler
Was delicious
Gonna throw the other half on BBQ grill tomorrow
Fishin Phil
I will make sure and try and save any worms I find for you
Maybe have a vacuum sealer by then
Try and package it nice for you

Thanks again everyone
On a charter in a couple weeks
Hopefully get on the kayak before then
Either way
Try my best to get a few more fish
I'll let you guys know how it goes

There was a thread here some time back where someone found a huge cluster of something that looked like worms, but I think it turned out to be something different. You should search for it.

Freezing in your home freezer won't do it. You need to get down to like 14F for 48 hours or something. You'd probably need to get some dry ice to pull that off.

Google pyloric caecum. If that is what it looked like, then no they arent parasites. And no they arent worms. Ive had yellows with it before. Just part of their digestive system. Sashimi it up.

If it looked some thing like this it is pyloric caeca and normal. About all fish will have parasites, both internal n external. Mike
