Im considering installing a trolling motor only for trips that will require miles of paddling. I know installing one that your supposed to register it but have you guys or know anyone that's ever been harassed by law for registration?

I find it better to beg for forgiveness. And no i have never seen anyone get hassled for eletric motors. But back in the day there was always angry skiff guy.

had one for about 18 mos on a mango xfactor. Launched from baby beach and inside the harbor a lot. Cruised the harbor, no one said a peep. I would slow down when I saw harbor patrol and use the paddle a bit.

Never once bugged by anyone.

Thanks guys, I don't mind paddling but when you guys start to mention 3-5 mile one way outings I start to get worried if my (bad back) can handle it. Still bummed the OEX rental Hobie killed by back after just 30 mins and went with a regular paddle yak which I do love.

registration just for ocean cost about $29.00. just did mine two weeks ago.

I never got hassled and dfg stopped me plenty of times, never once asked for my paperwork.
(probably because they could not see my motor)

I don't do lakes, so that might be different.
