Big plastics
I know bass guys use the big hard swimbaits, like the jointed trout baits. And the big plastic trout baits too.
But do any of you use big salt water style plastics for the same application? Like the biggest size MC or fish trap swim baits. Has any one used the 10-12" slug style baits? My thought is these baits could be rigged weedless and fished in places the big trout baits couldn't. Thanks, Mike |

I like your thinking. I was on that same thought. My fishing partner makes swimbaits that we catch lots of Calicos on. Going to try them out in the Fresh for Green Bass. Definitely be able to rig them weedless. The slugs should work as well. Caught a pretty good fish at Perris awhile back on a smaller slug.

How about these?
These are Mutant Tackle 8.5" Weedless Swimbait. You use a big ol' Trokar weighted swimbait hook with them; They are supposed to be great. |

Those swim baits look good. I'm also thinking about slugs n saltwater swim bait cause I know how to fish them. Also I can afford them. Buying one of those 40-100 dollar non weedless trout swim baits is crazy. Mike

Wow those patterns are killer. Hopefully the quality is there, especially at that low of a price point. |

I ordered a pair of these. Quality is mediocre, however I've swam them in a pool and they swim well. The metal has not shown any rust yet.

I like using weedless plastics for green bass in the Summer time. When the grass is thick everywhere it's a good tool to use. I use 6"-7" baits with an Owner 8/0 Beast hook.
I fish it the exact same way I would for calicos in the kelp. Slow winding on top of grass matts and letting it fall into any openings. I was on a great weedless bite for a few weeks, then one day I couldn't get bit for hours. Out of frustration, I burned a bait back super fast and got crushed. Ended up landing a bunch of 3-5 lb bass that day but only got bit on the super fast retrieve.
