11-23 Late Report - La Jolla
With the big tidal swing this weekend, I thought sure there would be a strong current at LJ. Launched at 6:00 a.m. into ankle slappers. Water was 63 degrees and there was a light on-shore breeze. Since I was starting a little late that morning, decided to go straight to the cans to make bait. Easy bait at the 1st buoy, but alas, no current.
Pedaled out to the NW corner and let out a fly line while throwing an iron. I could see schools of bait here and there on the FF, but no big marks chasing them. After a few hours of nada, switched over to squid on a dropper loop to see if there were any ling cod or sheephead in the neighborhood. There weren't. Called it quits at about 11:00. By then a very slight northerly current had developed, but it wasn't enough to entice me to stay longer. Easy landing through more ankle slappers. Pretty day on the water, but no big fish for me. I was in SD Harbor with my kids out at the bait Barge on Saturday from 9am til 2:30. Current was ripping every minute. Did well with the Sand Bass. My youngest cought a 19 inch Halibut and released it like a champ then then he had the catch of the day with this Bass. Good day.
