shelter isle diving
can anyone tell me if it's ok to dive in the channel off shelter isle. i was between the south end of isle and the green buoy and hooked a freakin diver and his dive boat was nowhere around. they finally showed up and thought it was all a big joke.

From what I understand it is illegal to dive anywhere inside San Diego Harbor due to all the military bases and ships there.

Use to be able to when I was a kid but not anymore. You need a permit for the bay. I don't know what the process is but it can't be to easy, kinda like trying to get a concealed gun permit.

The Harbor Police regulates diving in the bay.
http://www.portofsandiego.org/sandie...page/index.asp I think they only give permits for activities such as commercial diving, research and municipal projects.
