Bait report 10/3 Lj
Went out yesterday morning around 630. Surf was a little bigger but no problem. Bait was really tough I ended up catching two quick bonita that I had to end up chumming and tipping hooks with while tied up to the kelp. Got 3-4 greenies finally and started trolling. First fish around 930. Gave mike a single bait which he turned into a yellowtail in about ten minutes while I made a couple more baits in the kelp. Got my second fish shortly after that. Mike hooked up a bruiser on the way in the we had to fight a seal for but ended up losing.
A tip for you guys going out this week: Have a backup plan for bait. It was not easy. If I had not caught those bones it would have been tough. Bring something with you, for at least your sabiki hooks but for chumming as well. There are greenies in the kelp but they take a while to come around the boat. |

Nice YT! Even from the distance it looks to be good size! Always hard to tell with the gopro shots.

Ya it was a big one for sure! I need to buy a scale. The second one was smaller but not by a lot.

Big schools of yellowtail on the sonar underneath the ones on the hook. Mostly marked the schools off the bottom but they would come up to 30-60 feet of water to bite once they saw the greenbacks. |

It's those moments why I love fishing for Yellows from a kayak. Never a dull moment from the second you hook one.
