PAL's Channel Islands Article in WON
(Nov 9th edition) Great write-up, enjoyed reading about the island adventure. I agree with Paul's opinion that the public needs to be involved and "buy in" to any closures. I may take some flames here but I'm in favor of marine reserves where there is evidence to support their need. Look at the Hong Kong region to learn what over-fishing can do. But I don't want fisheries closed only because it sounds good to some activist who never spends time there anyway. I will need very compelling evidence to support closing any part of La Jolla. I'm going to join the KFACA to try and make my opinion count.

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed the article.
The MLPA is a bear we'll have to wrestle sometime in the next couple of years. The KFACA was involved when the process hit its first target in CenCal. Then local 'yakkers woke up and started fighting for themselves, so the KFACA has gone into sleep mode for now. When the process makes its way south, we'll fire it back up and do our best to get our voices heard. That's when we'll need as much help as we can get. |
