8-25 La Jolla Report
Launched just before daylight and headed to pier to make bait in about an hour. Squid tipped sabiki worked for 6 greenies. Headed to NW corner of reserve to check things out on the inside. Saw good signs but hammerhead stole my bait and chewed thru braid. Headed toward the point and put out my second mac after about 30 minutes of pedaling. Sure enough, that sucker had been following me and bit me off within 10-15 seconds. No fluoro on board so lucky enough to meet someone who had some. Hammerhead was pretty darn fired up when I skipped my bait back to the yak. He put it in high gear heading straight for me. Fortunately, he veered off before there was a problem. Rain squalls hit and that ended my day. Headed back in looking forward to a hot cup of coffee. Ankle slappers fyi. Will try again Friday. Good luck all.
