North County YT and sharks galore
Paddled out at sunrise and quickly made bait of a few greenies and plenty of Spanish. Headed out and after about 30 minutes we noticed a bunch of splashing behind my buddies kayak and about a 4 foot tail swung out of the water. He got picked up by the nice sized Thresher but it chewed his bait and he reeled in an empty hook. Around 8:30 am at 110 feet I got picked up hard. Battled through a little bit of kelp (surprising because I wasn't showing any on my fish finder), and was able to get a clean gaff. My buddy got picked up shortly thereafter and we quickly realized it was a shark. He brought it to color and sure enough it was an 8-9 foot hammerhead. He cut his line and about 5 minutes later the same Hammerhead was splashing the surface aggressively near another kayaker. Tried for another hour with no luck, and headed in with a big smile on my face.
