Do your macs ever shake the hook?
I've been experimenting with different hooking styles lately. I always used to just go in from the mouth and out the top-center of the bait, but lately the damn macs with shake their head and out comes the hook. So, I went to hooking through their nostrils, but then the bait seems to spin when trolling (even at really slow speeds).
What's your favorite way to hook your macs? I use circle hooks if that makes a difference? Never noticed this before. |

3/0 owner ringed gorilla hook. Through the nose. $$. I don't think I've ever trolled a spinning Mac. Unless it's dead

Havent had many maks come off the hook. I hook them from inside the mouth and out the top of the nose. this way seams to prevent the hook from turning back in to the baits' head. This year I've been experimenting with rigging baits. Not sure if it really gets bit better but the baits never come off or have the hook turn and foul. Mike

Did you switch hooks recently? If so, take a look at the barbs on the hook. I do not recall whÃXch brand it is but there is a brand of hooks that has small barbs, I'm not saying this is the actual reason it's happening but it's something you may want to look at.
