SoCal Offshore Kayak 2015-- BLUEFIN
Finally got it. 30# BFT unassisted from the yak, with a YT to boot.
Caught on spanish flyliner 7 miles off the beach. |

I'm a heavy guy (230#) and with 50# of fish, a full bait tank, and a nice compliment of offshore gear... I'd say I was pushing the weight limit in the prowler. I wasn't taking on THAT much water, but the hatch between my legs was definitely submerged if I stopped paddling.
Once I put the BF in the front hatch it lowered my center of gravity and made me a bit more stable, albeit lowriding. Still I'd rather have the prowler out there. You can see in the video, when I stop paddling I just keep gliding for another 100 feet. Multiply that over 12hrs and that's a lot of energy savings. So smooth and efficient. The rudder also makes a big difference when paddling diagonally to the swell, especially downhill. |

A very rare day.
A kayaker catching tuna and YT, I wonder how many boaters were wishing they could sell their boat when they saw you with that load..... Major props. |
