Newport this Sunday
2nd time going out and figured Newport would be a good place. Taking the pro angler 14 out. Would I be nuts to head out of the bay? If anyone wants to join company would be nice. I have tons of offshore experience and surfed most of my life before a bad knee injury. I'll be bringing the VHF.
Any suggestions? |

You'll know when you are ready to go solo. I'm sure most will agree having a buddy is smart (especially if they know more than you).
I say do it... figure out where you will go and what you'll do (tell someone) and do it. |

You're totally nuts; however, depending on your confidence and health, it's possible to go left at the mouth of the harbor and check out the kelp close to shore.

If I do go left and hit the kelps what species would I find? Maybe bring a couple avets instead of just bass gear.

When I was in shoes of similar size to yours....
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ad.php?t=18000 Sheephead was caught near the surface among kelp stringers using frozen squid tentacles. Sculpin was just off the bottom. |
