Thump, Thump...Slurp, Slurp...WTF?
So...I'm in a zombie state floating around in the dark. Absolutely nothing going on and I'm just putting in my time waiting for the sunrise. Every once in a while, I hear and feel this thump, thump...a minute goes by...thump, thump...something's hitting my kayak. Turn off the bait pump...thump, thump...thump, thump.
Well, it's not Mr. Taxman because I haven't been thrown 10' into the air...I look to the left and to the right...nothing. Then...thump, thump...I look down again and see a tail...it's a fairly large Ray. Upside down and tight to my hull...WTF!?. It's slurping my squid juice coming out of my scupper hole! Its wings are banging on my hull, thump, thump. Mr. Ray swims out upside down and I give him a squid and he's all over it. We do this for a while, actually two pounds of squid later and we go our separate ways. And then there's the yellow snake that showed up for a while...just under 3'. Had a flat tail? Pale yellow...El Nino effect? Jim Last edited by Deamon; 07-27-2015 at 06:22 AM. |

Wow, sea snakes now, definitely the Super El Nino we are going into ........
....btw, I heard a RUMOR from the surfer community that a Tiger Shark was seen in La Jolla. These guys know the difference in sharks as they see sharks all the time. Anyone confirm this rumor and remember it is still a rumor. PS I googled the range and we are in it Last edited by ctfphoto; 07-27-2015 at 11:55 AM. |

Just out of curiosity I looked it up and SD is within that species of Sea Snakes's distributed area. I'd imagine it's still quite uncommon to see one; Very cool find!

Saw the same type of snake about 6 miles out about 10 feet under me. At first I thought it was a piece of weird colored kelp....but after seeing your picture it sure as heck was as sea snake.

"It's slurping my squid juice coming out of my scupper hole! " I've heard you use the exact same words to describe a completely different scenario
