Andy & Yanni's Offshore Attempt, No. 1

Bluefin from a kayak? Sounded good to me and Andy.
We're always hopeful. I think thats why
we like to fish together.

Yesterday, Dana was looking very ripe. Water temps,
chloro, water color and overall weather. Confident in our
abilities and knots, we went for it. Like Andy posted the
day before the trip, we just brought irons and swimbaits.
(Andy claims the swimbaits are easy to drag around and
I found out he was right)

We launched around 7am, giving us plenty of sleep-time the
night before. Since we knew it was going to be an all day
deal.

Starting one mile offshore, we noticed lots of patties. That
made us hopeful. Then we started noticing lots
of Tern activity. Even more hopeful. Then, tight bait balls
between 40-60ft. So hopeful, we were about to explode.

But, one last puzzle piece was never found. Marks causing the
bait balls. None all day. That, plus the Terns baiting us all day,
made for a long day...

Andy and I split up on the way back in. I mistakenly thought
Laguna Beach was Dana Point. Keep in mind, I've never had to
pay attention to the landscape from such a distance. I probably added
an additional 2 miles to my paddle home going the wrong way.
I had my hand held GPS, but never brought it out to check,
"where in God's name am I?"

But since my FishnDive is the fastest kayak on the water, we were
both back on land by 5pm. Enervated, a bed was all we needed.

How far offshore?? You tell me.

I did have a welcoming committee just outside of Marina.

Would I do it again? Yes, but only when I know the tuna are around.

PS. Adi's boat has got nothing on our kayaks.

I figured you were going to fish the headlands when you kept heading away from me and north

Fun attempt, one of these days all the puzzle pieces will fall into place!

Sounds like a very long, but fun day. It is a good warm up for when they're out there. Thanks for the report Yani.

Nice try guys. It's going to happen one of these days soon.

What is impressive is that Yani did this BIG paddle on a Cobra Fish and Dive!
Talk about being in great physical condition! wow.
