Northwest HOW founder dies kayaking
http://www.peninsuladailynews.com/ar...NEWS/305209977
Roland Abiva, one of the founding members of the Pacific Northwest Heroes on the Water Chapter and the current assistant chapter coordinator died. I only had the opportunity of meeting Roland a few times but I am proud to call him a friend. On May 14th Roland died while getting ready to launch his kayak for the Halibut opener in Washington. He had some pre-existing health issues and while getting ready to launch his kayak he collapsed in the surf and drowned. He was 39 years old and has one 17 year old son. His family is raising money to place a memorial bench at the location of his drowning, an education fund for his son, and to lodge some of his family from Guam during the memorial service. If you are able to help with the fundraising, there is a gofundme account established by the Portland HOW chapter on his families behalf. http://www.gofundme.com/rolandabiva Rest in Peace Roland, May you catch all of the fish in heaven...........
