Wtb: shimano tranx or avet raptor
Anyone have recommendations on which reel would be better for an overnight trip for yellowtail.
If you got any for sale pm me. |

Avet raptor is overkill. You would do fine with a regular avet. The reels are better at different things. I would want the tranx for jigs and the Avet for bait. But if I had to choose one of them I would go avet and save your self about $300. You could probably get 3 non-raptor avets for the price of the tranx. Or 2 Daiwa lexa 400's which are close in size to the tranx. Both of these more cost efficient reels would handle anything you will ever catch from a kayak.

I went on a three day trip back in august and half the guys on that boat were fishing Tranx and Revo Toros. Handled everything... YT, YFT, Dodos. They only switched out when we got into some big BFT. I fished my AVET JX and it was total overkill.

A Lexa 400/Revo Toro 50/Okuma Citrix 350 will cover anything up to 30lbs and can fish bait and jigs effectively. Won't last as long as an Avet but they are a hell of a lot more fun. That said, small Avets are my favorite for bait fishing; SX, SXJ.

thanks for the reply guys, I already have a lexa 400 and love it. I thought the tranx would be more fun. I guess I will just get me another lexa.
