Bet they don't hunt it down like they would a wild dog that bit someone. The seals are getting out of hand, waiting to see how many local GW sitings we get this year.

Yeah... That's when I pull the 6" dive knife from my PFD and start stabbing the thing... at least that's my plan as I'm sitting in my comfy chair.
Personally, I think those guys are scarier than sharks... mostly because they are smarter. |

ON friday I had a juvi sea lion chase me around. In the 4 years i've been on the water, the first time I was really concerned. I was swinging my gaff as this dog wanted on my kayak.
I think I need my sling shot back. |

Agree, they are getting violent....I also heard a 5 year old kid was bit in the face this past weekend at La Jolla cove..... the kid probably provoked it....pulling on his wiskers, mooning him, giving him a wet-willy etc.......
The problem is, the seals have no *healthy* fear of man anymore. The *Greenies* pulled our teeth....ie...can't use seal-bombs, can't harass them, can't thin-the-herd etc... Just like with Kalifornia DF&G (now Wildlife...oay vay). 20+ years ago, they 100% protected the Mountain Lion, due to public mostly *Greenie* pressure. As a result, Lions are not afraid of man anymore. People and domestic animals are getting attacked and sightings are significantly increasing. And the *Greenies* disappear when attacks happen, no where to be found for comment or taking responsibility. So much for Wildlife Management. |

just wait for the seal lady to take a picture of someone hitting a seal with a gaff, that all they need to start a commotion. She just did not get a picture of the seal attacking the fisher moments before the gaff hit

Wrist rocket works wonders. Just be careful of what you launch.
The problem with this method is that it does not work when you are hooked up. Thus the buddy system. |

bring out the bean shooters no evidence left behind since you could use these materials for safety and emergency purpose.

I used to surf The north jetty of Humboldt bay and now and then a couple of big male sea lions would get aggressive. Charging at you, popping up right next to you and roaring in your face, chasing guys out of the water. A buddy had one bite his leg and yank him right off his board. And this was with out food involved. I hope we don't start seeing shit like that down here.
I've read the regs concerning when and with what you can drive, or attempt to drive, sea lions away from your fishing area. I don't recall the regs saying any thing about defending your self from sea lions. Mike |
