Newport, 3-22-15
Landwhale and I launched at about 4:30pm to high winds and lots of boat traffic. We scooted over to the peninsula side to hide from the worst of the wind and work the moored boats. I immediately found 4 shorts (2 sand and 2 plaid) on the 5" Paddlerz in Smokey Shad. I then tossed the swim jig for a while hoping for a legal, but only got one bite. Moved around and eventually pulled another short sandy and a short butt. The wind backed down and the tide finally started coming in. We moved across the channel and a short while later the wind picked back up and blew in ernest. Worked the channel drop off all the way back to the launch for 4 more bass, 1 a sandy about 2.5lbs. Those all came on a 5" Paddlerz in Rootbeer/gold flake. Also tried afew different jigs, but no love was found for them.
At about 7:30pm we called it a night as it was cold, windy, and Steve had no light. It was a short trip, but good to be out on the water. I haven't fished twice in a week in years, glad I was able to this week.

Sounds like the back is doing good Ed. Hope it stays that way. Too bad the wind blew so hard. Good idea to switch it up and try a pm outing. Not a bad outing.

My back still hurts a lot, but since I gave up surfing it hasn't gone out completely. So, that's good. As far as switching it up, I got the o.k. from the wife to fish after work on the occasional Sunday. Yesterday was the first go. I'll tell you what though, the boat traffic on a Sunday compared to a weekday is astonishing. I forgot how bad it can get. We couldn't fish the channel until sunset when most of the traffic was gone.

Yeah, that's the worst thing about weekend fishing. Especially in the summer. Or our "summer" winter this year.

I am just recovering from another NPH beating just luckily got 2 fish on the fast retrieve to add to 2 other fish for another tough outing for me.Like Ed said the boat traffic was heavy. Fished mostly the skirted jig all night with Redbone Smokey Shad Houdini and New Penny with Uni Butter both 3/8 and 1/2 oz heads. Good fishing with Ed.
