Landed my PB Calico Bass today
Slow and cold in carlsbad. Fished for an hour for nada at the patties so I hit the reef. 3 casts later and this thing slammed my bait. Funnest fight and my new personal best. I have no idea what the weight or length was, but it felt around 4-5lbs ? Either way, I have a smile from ear to ear right now haha.

Nice job! Love when a big calico slams the bait! Even the little guys are fun to catch on the artificial.

That's a nice looking checkered kind. What is crazy is that fish could be 10-15 years old

Solid 4 maybe a 5? Either way, an old calico is a hoot on plastics. Nice job!

Yea I was stoked! I love fishing for them, good fights all around.
I forgot to mention that it was released. The moment I took the hook out of it's mouth it darted back to the bottom. Caught on a 1oz warbait w/ brown colored 4" fish trap swimbait. |

Good one! I'm a total bass geek and they are by far my most favorite fish to catch.
