Congrats. You have to be the luckiest man alive to be going home with that Halibut.

I wonder how many people who ride a cattle boat, and see a yacker catch a 35# halibut, give it up and go visit their local yack dealer and buy a boat?

You stoned that halibut with the gaff shot. Nice placement. And you're telling me la jolla isn't the only place to catch a yellowtail???

Sweet!

With the hurricane sitting off Baja, expected to be there for a while, just pumping the warm water up the coast, it's bound to only get better. Jeez, what an epic year!

Thanks guys for the views. One of those magical days, right conditions, little swell, no wind and right kind below the boat.

For the guys that mentioned safety as a concern. Best practices on the water, and precautions can always be improved. Personnal awareness is the biggest asset while managing gear and heavier game fish. I actually reviewed the video several times and did see a few things I could have done differently, but we have all been there, getting caught up in the moment. Lucky that halibut didn't go hay-wire, or as mentioned, could have been a unsafe move.

All in all, it's the risks we take for the shot, picture or experience of landing that fish we have been looking for. For me, I try to make them calculated risks, in this case well worth it!
