First YT!
Got out to a late start today at LJ. Think I had to park half a mile away! Also got off to a rough start by tearing my waders on my gaff while entering the water .
Made some bait just past the reserve, a few greenbacks and some jack mackerel. One of the jack mackerel was just massive! Trolled some live baits while slowing making for the far NW corner of the kelp. No take on the live baits at all... But I did whip out a small on the bass gear and within a few casts I hooked up to my first YT. It was fairly small maybe 5-7lbs? Still a YT and still great catch! Released it so I could keep fishing for the rest of the day looking for its bigger brother. Didn't ever find any bigger YT, but lots of bonito. I did break out the sabiki again later and I was pulling up a few small jack mackerel and a YT followed them all the way up to my yak and zoomed off as soon as we locked eyes Most of my live baits managed to swim into a rogue kelp stringer and get hung up... One of them did have something pick it up briefly and make a short run, maybe a dog?... But my line happened to be wrapped up around my rudder. Couldn't even get the line off my rudder until after I landed. It was stuck in there in a real interesting way. |
