Gonzaga Bay, Oh Boy!
A fishing report with details and pictures to follow later in week.
There were six people on this trip: Makobob, Walrus, and John are local guys who have been to Baja before. RW and AJ drove from Kentucky, and PT hailed from Tennessee. These last three guys will log over forty-five hundred miles on the highway to do this. By Thursday afternoon, our second full day, they were planning another week for next year, and by Saturday they were trying to figure out how to make it back by November this year. Now, a quick preview for the "On the Fly" fellows heading down next month. When we arrived Tuesday, first thing was we unloaded camping gear then sat down in the shade to drink some some water (temp over 100). As we sat and watched the water, schools of bait fish would explode right on the water line up and down the beach. The schools were not just small baits but include explosions made up of one pound mullets. As fishermen, we could not sit and watch this for very long and rigged up to fish the shoreline. In this session with fishing gear designed more for yellowtail and grouper we immediately began catching spotted bass, trigger fish, and the orange mouth corvina. The smallest corvina was twenty-one and a quarter inches the largest, while the largest was twenty six inches, and every one fat. In a couple of hours we caught and released 42 fish. The fish we caught will be pure joy on the fly. Guys, you're going to have a blast. Then we had five more full days of fishing which got even better.

New species.................................You bet.
Size..........................watch for fish report later this week with pictures taken until batteries died. I will give this away, some of the spotties caught were big enough to win any spotted bass tournament held here in San Diego. Surface lures ruled............jigs and spoons went to the rocks faster than you could pull back.

This was a private trip that Wally requested for himself and his BROTHERS as their yearly family fish together. They have already booked a trip again for next year, same time, just waiting for dates. They are the CLACK BROTHERS, so there was a lot of Clack on, Clack off going on. It was the best BAJA or BUST trip so far. The fish just kept bitting. It was HOT!
