8/22 La Jolla first blood
Took out the new hobie revo finally today. Also my first trip to La Jolla and one of the few I have done on open water. Thanks to Andy for setting me up. Been putting it off for a while because I can never get out of bed early enough to get out there at 0'dark thirty as planned. On my few days off work I pretty much just sleep all day.
So today I did not get out of bed at 4:30 when my alarm went off to remind me to go fishing. But I did an afternoon session instead. Got on the water after 3pm, off before sunset. Went past the reserve and made bait. Tons of jack mackerel, but only 1 greenback and it managed to unhook itself right at the kayak. Was pretty much WFO on bones throwing a 1oz KM on the bass gear. Great scrappy fighters on bass gear. Largest bone went a little over 15" and pulled some nice drag. Tried trolling/drifting some jack mackerel around for no bites. Tried flylining as well as dropper loop. Tried fishing the kelp with some weedless plastics for no calicos. Real nice day out on the water and launch/landing conditions might as well have been a lake. Saw no other kayak fishermen, 1 guy spear fishing. A few boats appeared to be about 3 miles out. I basically had the entire place to myself. . Last edited by bmercury; 08-22-2014 at 11:52 PM. |

Love it. Extremely fast and smooth ride and more than stable enough.

My first hobie was a revo, it was great but at 6' 210lbs it seemed small. I made it work and landed some great fish on it. Keep charging best of luck.
