The Kraken
Jackson Kayaks and Jim Sammons are getting ready to "release the Kraken" this boat was designed from the hull up to be a paddlers dream. I paddled the prototype hull and was very impressed. These guys knocked it out of the park again with the deck layout.

Nice, I was wondering what the deck layout was going to be like. It's going to be much more expensive than I thought but the specs look good. I'm sure Jim will post an update to his original thread soon. http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ad.php?t=20104

That thing is going to retail almost much as an Outback!
Personally I'd rather pedal than paddle. FFY. |

It looks like a well thought out Pacific fish killin' machine.
The length, width, and weight capacity are almost identical to my 8 year old ride which is very stable and paddles well. I look forward to seeing what the hull looks like and all the features up close. |

just an opinion.
Too much rigging, too heavy, dont trust ram, dont like modular design on bait tank, neoprene doesnt "seal" anything. Would like to see a stripped down version of the hull. Hobie exacerbated this "rigged to death" out of the box trend I dont follow. Give me a kayak with a tested hull. Ill do the rest.

I belive what they are referring to is a hatch like sea kayaks have been using for the last 20 years. It's a neoprene cover with a hard plastic cover over it. For a bow hatch designed to punch through waves it's the best type of seal/cover/lid out there. Not sure if this is what they are using but hope it is.
I know I can't wait to get mine.

Too much wasted space where the Plano box goes. Makes the reach to the tank and the rod holders too far.

Yea Patrick the reach to the bait tank and rod holders does look far. Also the forward gear track looks way too far forward to be useful, and the side rails don't look wide enough to support mounting any rod holders. Gear track on the side rails would be my preference. At $2k msrp + plumbing + rudder + paddle I'm thinking ~$2700 otd to get on the water without a FF. Pricey. Can't wait to see one rigged up, might be better than I think.

I know nothing about Jackson kayaks.
First glance...the seat looks like a lawn chair...might not be the best ride for MY application? I will say this... it could be a really good kayak since Sammons was part of the design. I'd like a test drive before I judge. |

I'm not saying it won't paddle and handle very well. That's just a heck of a reach for us 5'8" guys.
