Mission Bay, 7-14-14
Launched from the Ski Beach launch ramp with Landwhale and Hobie Tom around 6:30am. It was cloudy and cool with a south wind blowing. Water was about 70º at low tide and at high tide it was down to about 66º. The wind blew almost the whole time and the clouds stuck around too. But the wind was with the current so it was no big deal.
Around 8:30 Margarita Mike came by the ramp and we came in and shot the breeze for a while. I think at this point I had 16 spots and the other 2 had about the same. Eventually Steve and I headed back out and Tom and Mike took off. For those first 2 hours I was having a tough time making the fish stick, but was getting bit on almost anything I threw including the slip jig, 4" white Flurry on an orange Slayer head, and 5" rootbeer/gold flake and New Penny Paddlerz. When we went back out I stuck mainly to the 2 Paddlerz. The second half of the day pretty much went off, I finished with 51 spots and 1 sandy. Most fish were in the 12-13" range with 6 legals. Needless to say, Steve and I had a blast and caught fish up until we left at 12:30. Though the last hour was much slower than earlier. Newport has been kicking out a lot of piggy legals lately, but some times quantity is just plain fun.

This Hidebrant Tin Roller in Alewife was good for 26 spotties
The Redbone "Pallez for a 12 also used the shad Paddlez, Goldrush and New Penny all on the Owner Ultra Head in 3/8 oz With Uni Butter for a total of 48 spotties 7 legals and the rest were all 10 to 13 inches a wide nopen day on Mission Bay And that was only 5 hrs fishing

You guys!!
You guys are so lucky!! WhT a great time you had ! It seem with spots size doesn't really matter. Every time you set the hook you wonder how big is it? Those fish fight twice as hard as the rest. If I could have a day like that all the time life would be grand. !!! Congrats to all you guys for finding the fish.

Thanks guys, it was a great day.
Yeah, they can hit like freight trains when they're being aggressive. Today they were. Quote:
