Newport, 4-22-14

Steve and I launched about 6:30. It was windy and cold. The water temps are up, I even saw 66º. But the fish just didn't want to bite after about 7:15. I got 3 bass in that time, then it just died. We tried a few different areas and ended up back where we started. I did manage a very short mini-butt, but never got another bass. Tried quite a few different colors and styles, none better than the other. Well, at least the water bounced back finally. They didn't bite today, but I had a good time with Steve and he got to break in his new ride.

Thinking about going out this Sunday. Is there a preferred place to launch from? Whats the bait situation? Will be my first time there, so any input would be appreciated.

We usually launch from the USCG/Harbor Patrol beach. But, you need wheels for that launch. A lot of guys launch out on the peninsula at M St. and supposedly you don't need wheels for that spot. From either spot if you look South towards the entrance you'll see the bait barge. I don't know what they have right now or what they charge as I only use plastics.

Last Saturday they only had 10" mackerels that they said it was huge sardines... 2 scoops of them for $20.
Ended up using plastics while the macks swam in our tank.

Not too bad considering the skunkfest in DP yesterday. Are you interested in some rock fishing next Monday Ed?

Not really into rockfishing. Mainly because I don't like eating fish (unless it's sushi). I think Steve and I will be hitting the Pipe next monday (if the wind looks good). Where are you guys headed?

Not real sure. Gonna see if my girlfriend is working Monday first. Been bailing on her to fish a lot lately so I may do something with her but we'll see
