Newport rock fishing
I've never fished Newport before and I'd like to go this weekend and catch some rockfish. Can anyone point me in the direction I should go to find rock piles. Just some friendly advice so I at least know I'm headed the right way.
Have any threshers been seen recently? Is it worth trolling my Rapala on the way out to the grounds? |

I am also very interested in where everyone fishes on their kayak.
I think it would be very useful and helpful for newbies if there is a collection/thread of map with markers on it.

I don't know if asking for someone's numbers is going to get a response. These guy have put a ton of time in collecting that information. Best I would hope for is just the opportunity to tag along.

Just to be honest, using charts won't help much. I've been fishing that spot for rockfish for almost 3 years now. Just get out there in the general 180'-210' range and start looking for schools of fish on the bottom. There are about 30 different spots out there holding fish, you're bound to just run into one of them.

Having a fish finder and knowing how to read the bottom help a lot. Must use at least 4 oz to 6 oz weight dropper loop. Good luck

The beauty of rock fishing with 8oz lead is it does a number to the clear coat when you chuck them at power boaters.
