Went out there for the first time today, didn't realize how far of a paddle it was to get out there, and even feather for the rock fish. Good current, light wind, combination of sunny and overcast, lots of macs on the sabiki. Tried drifting a mac 2oz Carolina rig no takers. Tried double dropper loop with squid for rock fish but I couldn't find the rock piles.

Might go out Tomorrow and fish for calico's in the kelp.

La Jolla tomorrow Friday anyone?

Just got back. Bad news first: a huge skunk for me. I was not able to even catch live bait. I saw many just swim by and ignore my sabiki. I even put tiny pieces of squid and still nothing. My transducer came loose so my FF was out.

The good news: did not get sick at all. Big thanks to all who helped out with seasickness tips.

Swell was not too bad. Saw lots of bait and a threshers shark going wild. Water visibility was pretty good 15+ feet.

It was a little embarrassing answering everyone at the beach who asked "what did you catch?"

Can't wait to be on the water again next week.

Lj is a huge learning curve. Fishing blind with no fish finder is even harder. Sounds like you have next week planned so you didn't get beat. Time on the water

momo fish: I don't want to mess with karma

William: I agree with you, LJ is tough hoping to master it with time. I took my FF to the guys at OEX they are great and friendly, they quickly re-gooped my transducer and tightened battery cable. Will test it today in Agua Hedionda with my kids.

Glad the advice you got, helped you from getting sea sick. So at least you learned one more thing on that trip. That is always great when each trip makes you appreciate the experience more. Next time you'll catch something. Some times I'll go out to LJ and get skunked just because I'll spend all day focusing on just Yellow Tail or White Sea Bass. Sometimes it's not about just getting something but part of the learning curve. If asked (which happens every time you go out at LJ) just tell them you caught some but released them. That will keep them happy. Tight Lines.
