Successful Couple of Days in SD
I went out hoopnetting on Monday. Launched around 430 and left at midnight. Ended up with 3 keepers.
On tuesday I met up with ctf photo for some rock fishing in la Jolla. Arrived at the launch around 11am and there was small choppy waves, light winds and overcast sky's. the launch was easy and so we started hitting lobster buoys for rockfish and looking for macs to stock up on for lobster. The sun came out and we found a spot that gave both of us a variety of rockfish. I was in 90ft of water and fishing a double dropper loop with cut squid and anchovies with a 4oz weight. The fish seemed to like the anchovies. Easy landing on the beach at sunset. I went out lobstering again on Wednesday starting at sunset. Weather was overcast when I started then the rain started. Ended up with 6 keepers and was done at 230am I made yani's rockfish soup recipe which is perfect for this rainy weather and a day off of fishing. The bugs are still out there but you gotta put the time in to find them. |

Yes I believe they are all rock fish. Correct me if I'm wrong but the green and browns ones are tree rockfish, the spotted one on the right is a sculpin and the others are vermilion rockfish and starry eyed rockfish. They are all very tasty pan fried for tacos, sandwiches, or fish and chips. You can also do ceviche but I didn't try that yet.

Congrats
Good work. I put in some serious time in at Long Beach this week only to get skunked both nights!! I went out Tuesday night in the windy chop. . . nothing. Then thursday night right after the rain it was eerily calm but again. . . nothing. But the only thing worse than a skunk is not getting out on the water at all. It may be time to take a trip down to SD.
