Thresher
On the water at 7ish no wind not much current really small surf sun was shining bright, I had just got bait at the bait barge and met up with derek, very lively anchovies. I thought I might as well drop one down and see if anything is hungry, before ot hir the bottom a good sized greenback grabbed it so I kept him, thinking I may want to use it later. Dropped a couple more times and nothing so we decided to head for open water. I paused and decided why the heck not just throw the dead mack on a flyline. So we paddled out a little ways and we both heard a splash so we turn around and the mack is in the air with a tail following it so I grabbed my reel and throw it in free spool to let it sink we couldn't tell what threw it in the air, I was thinking seal, derek was thing thresher. No more than 5 seconds later something slams it hard and starts running fast. fought it for about 15 min then I could tell it was climbing fast and boom it goes airborne and then again. Such an amazing sight to see. After a 25 min fight., My first thresher hooked and first landed on a brand new rod and reel set up. I landed without too many problems I watched someones video on here landing a thresher so I jist tried to copy I strapped it down paddled in cut the tail off stuffed it in my cooler and paddled back out to meet up with derek and to continue fishing. Photo credit goes to derek and a HUGE help landing that fish.

Very nice, you should get quite a few tasty meals out of that.

Do you carry a noose rope? I usually do just in case I hook a thresher. |

Nice going, Josh.
That looks like Newport. I tried it on Monday, but I had this huge sea lion following me the whole day. Caught some nice mack's, but got smacked each drop back. |
