Gong to try la jolla this weekend
Here is the plan, I am going to buy 2 of the salas 6x jr iron lures in blue and white and scrambled egg. I have 30lb line and a decent rod and reel. I also plan on bringing a setup to change out to a double dropper loop if I'm not getting a yellowtail bite. Any advice for a first time kayak fisherman? I'll bring a gaff and a net as well and leash everything down.

My advice would be to start of fishing in a harbor until you are comfortable on your kayak.

My first time ever in the ocean on a yak, I tried to launch fron san o in decent 3-5 foot surf. Lost alot of gear and learned alot. If your going big water for first time, leash everything down, and have all the appropriate safety equipment and go out with a buddy. Safety in numbers

+1 for fishing a bay first if you've never been out. It's so much easier to learn that you brought way too much stuff in a bay than it is when you're surf launching/landing.

Thanks for the advice. I have taken this kayak out a few times in la jolla just not fishing. I don't plan on takin a lot of extra stuff and my kayak is a tandem so I have a buddy. I have one of those crates that I've seen on this website and just plan on using a bunjee cord to hold it down.

Had great conditions, and some nice kayaker gave me some squid to use. I didn't catch your name but if you use this forum, thanks! I ended up getting skunked, caught a lot of seaweed and some sea lions stole my bait constantly but it was a ton of fun and can't wait to get back out there and do it again. Just gotta learn where to fish I guess. Haha
