How often do people use these type of rods on a kayak? Is it worth bringing along a dedicated rod just for bait? or just use the sabiki on one of your big game rods?

Most useful to have dedicated bait rod, you do not have to change out a sabiki rig.

Let's you save money on having a place to store your Sabikis, since the rig is retrieved into the stick. Always be sure to wash with freshwater afterwards to keep the hooks and swivels from rusting.

I have one, and i take it with me everytime i go. One of the most convenient tools i have on board. No hassle with tangled lines & hooks getting caught up.

I also bought the same exact sabiki rod at Bass Pro Shops for $50!

It's the only rod I take and use on every trip. I have an Promar Sabiki rod that I cut down to six feet, and I run 5 hook sabikis.

It's just so convenient. I keep it rigged all the time, right now even ( I checked). It's pretty much no worry. I cut the butt cap off the rod and rinse the sabikis with the hose running water right through the rod after each trip, and replace them when the hooks start breaking off.

Kayaking I have it rigged in the holder at all times while I'm paddling. When I see bait on the meter I just drop it down running a 2 ounce sinker and it usually hooks up on the drop. There's an old saying in fly fishing: "match the hatch" I.E. fish what's there, and I'd say there is an advantage to fishing local bait. Sardines Mackerel Spanish Smelt and even squid hit them.

I hardly ever buy bait anymore unless I'm fishing offshore or the the islands, and I figure it's paid for itself many times over.

Often I'll take it on Marlin trips where no-ones seen or used one before. Guys making bait with expensive little trout rods and reels. By the end of the trip everyone is using my sabiki rod to make bait, and completely sold on the idea. It's not really fishing like your used to but it really is a convenient way to make bait without the tangles and problems usually associated with bait rigs.

At this point I wouldn't even consider not taking one, they are that good of a tool.

I used to like the sabiki rods, but now i just use a regular rod and deal with it. If you ever get the sabiki stuck inside the rod which does happen...your gonna be pissed. You accidentally wind the line too far and have to rethread it ...your gonna be pissed...your sabiki hooks get bent a little and now it wont wind into the rod...your gonna be pissed...not to mention its a friggin broomstick and not sensitive enough for those light bites...its a half ass rod at best and really has no other use than to make bait. A regular rod can be used for everything so its the better choice in my opinion.

Oh yeah a squid jig gangion cant be wound into it either....yeah some bait stick...

I have one, I used to use it a lot and it works well for catching bait and keeping your sabiki stored. I just cant justify having a rod holder taken up by a sabiki rod anymore so I don't use it.

If someone wants it I'll sell it for $30 its 7' and made by "Eat My Tackle"

Tony hit it on the head. X2
(I know of at least 15+ people off the top of head that have hooked into monster yellowtail while making bait on a sabiki purely by mistake..
Some get lucky by tangling several hooks fouling the yt or wsb into submission, while others purposely place a iron on the bottom instead of a sinker, while others fashion a hook onto the end of their torpedo sinker..
Broomsticks dont fight well..& Ya never know when you or a buddy might need that extra set up that would have otherwise been a flagpole taking up space..

Keep it simple.

If it breaks or if I lose it I'll just grab a spare light action rod that I have or buy something cheap at the swap meet.
