Thumbs up

So apparently I'm using the wrong gear, I'm going to have to pick up a "mickey mouse" pole to fish successfully.

Thanks, good to know. I was eyeballing my sons Transformers rod and already figuring out how to attach a leash. I guess I'll just have to stick with my gear. Great pics by the way, one hell of a day was had I'm sure.

Good seeing you guys and meeting you guys. My buddy and I hit up mission bay after and caught some spotties and my buddy landed a short butt and got what must have been a 25-30in hail boat side and then when trying to land it the line snapped. We were going for spotties so I left the gaff and net in the truck not thinking I would need it (Rookie mistake) . Lesson learned the hard way. ALWAYS take the gaff and net ALWAYS.

Thanks to all those who made it out to help out for the day. We had a good day and a decent turn-out. A late group of participants showed up in the afternoon that brought our total to 19 participants.

A big thank you to Tommy Gomes at Catalina offshore products for providing the WSB for the tacos. TacMik for as always putting in such a great effort and really assisting with the operations on the day of the event.

Thanks to Paul Lebowitz who brought a fleet of kayaks out today, MakoBob, BillsBaits, and Drake thank you for the donations. To all the volunteers we greatly appreciate the help.

Some photos from today.

I think I pulled the heaviest one out of the water today, couldn't get a certified weight in the Anchor chain buoy combo. It was floating mid channel. Would have ruined a power boaters day!

Great day showing some nice people the joy of kayaking.

It was a pleasure and privilege to spend time on the water with veterans and old and new kayak fishing friends. A lot of work goes into a HOW event. I can't commend Matt and CJ enough for work getting a SoCal chapter off and running.

It says a lot about our sport that we had so many excellent volunteers and equipment donors. I sense they felt like I did, that they got far more out of the day than they gave, and that however much they could offer, it would never be enough to show our deep gratitude.

When I headed home at 3:30, Matt was grilling hot dogs for a group that had arrived minutes before the end of the event. I know he had a long drive ahead of him and many things to do, but he put them on hold. For Matt, this is clearly a labor of love.

I didn't take many photos (intrusive isn't my style), but preferred to simply pitch in. Some of our guests (not the ones in the photos) were a little unsure when they launched. It was wonderful to watch them gain confidence on the kayaks, then crack out the smiles.

EasyDay should forevermore be known as Spiderman. Epic! This guy knows how to have fun. And Gregory, the other guy pictured here, was all can-do attitude. He couldn't have known what he was in for when he paddled off to fish with the man once known as Paddle Fetish. After that long up-wind trip back from 32nd St, the white seabass tacos were oh so tasty.

I have never laughed as hard on the water, as I did, watching Easy pull on his legal Spottie. Pal was laughing and trying to take pictures.

Josh's "spidey" senses were in fine tune yesterday!
