The T's are showing
Right off the bat, today felt sharky for me, especially after brads report yesterday, so I didn't make bait and went straight out to troll a rapala. I trolled for about a 1/4 mile out of the reserve when a fin comes up in fronna the yak, then splashing, then a tail comes out of the water. Reeled in the troll line and threw on him seonds after he went down por nada. So I keep trolling out and see a guy hooked up and said it felt like thresher, so I thought I'd get some shots. Sorry if I got in the way, tried to paddle with one arm and it wasn't cutting it.
http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t...=sharks008.flv http://s157.photobucket.com/albums/t...=sharks009.flv I decide to troll out far (where the boats/charters were) and got tired about half way, so I let the lure sit, and as soon as I start paddling the rod bent to the water and clicker screamed. Set the hook, fought him up and down for abut 20 minutes when I had to wave a fellow yakker down becuase this was my first shark (hadnt seen it, but knew it right away) and didn't wanna attempt to land it by myself.) after a good 45 minute fight we had it cut bleeding and roped. It's not a huge thresher, but it was my first and I was proud, and my mom loves thresher so we got steaks going now. Special thanks again to the two guys who helped me out with the landing/securing on the kayak. Weight estimates? It was 35.5 inches from the nose to the cut right before the tail (74.5 nose to end), and 24 inch girth. I was gonna say 60 pounds? Hell of a paddle in with the extra weight Last edited by JrBasser; 04-22-2007 at 03:45 PM. |

Congrats on the T. I saw you getting towed out there. Kurt and Nate are the guys that helped you out. Looks like veal t steaks to me. Must have been Brad's Aura lol.

i thought that was you in the blue yak, and i recognized chris from the boards and the MBF on mission. I thought I might of had the right kind when he was peeling line, then he got under me and stayed there and I knew. I dunno about Brad's aura though, he showed up too late when he offered to help after it was nearly dead and bled out ;-) were there yellow boils under the birds to the south of us while getting the thresher on the yak?
And Chris, I saw the release, just forgot to mention it. Saw one more Thresher on the beach a little bigger. I have enough meat for the year so I can release the rest. Last edited by JrBasser; 04-22-2007 at 04:46 PM. |

Congrats bro. Sorry about almost taking off the whole tail I offered my assistance with the knife job and I was expecting the knife to stop at the bone... errr, sharks don't have bones, duh! Luckily I stopped with 1/2" to go. Damn filet knife can't cut a YT but is a friggen lightsaber on a shark . Anyway, it was fun being out there today. Learned a few things from watching the guys who know, pretty cool.

I would have raced over a little faster but I knew you were in good hands with Kurt. Congrats on the first T. The little ones taste great, but better not to make a habit of it. Nice job.
