Any fish in Carlsbad Lagoon?
My brother wants to go out and do some fishing in the lagoon, where should we go? should we expect to get skunked?

There are lots of fish there. It does require a permit to fish from a kayak. They are available at the rental shop.

Decent halibut come out of that lagoon.
I question the permits and the legality of the city of Carlsbad charging to use a public waterway. They also show preferential treatment to Carlsbad residents by charging less. I hope to hell the City of San Diego doesnt find out about it and start pulling that crap in Mission and San Diego bays... I get off of work in O'side and head south on the 5 every day at 3pm, and for the past week I've been seeing 1-2 Hobie PA's fishing the lagoon. Just want to let know whomever you are that you are making me feel guilty for wanting to get home and not joining you... Last edited by Baja_Traveler; 05-23-2013 at 07:15 AM. |

Skunked the last 30 times out. Boats and jetskiers are a pain.

Proof
This was pulled out of the Carlsbad Lagoon a few years ago by master fisherman Ichi-san. We were in a 2 man Folbot at the time. 20# test, 40 minute fight. It's actually called Hedionda Lagoon, which translates to "Stinky Lagoon". Maybe that's why you're getting skunked...

Hi Danny,
Good to hear from you. I'd love to go 'yakking, but I'm living in Germany at the time. I plan on being back sometime next year. Get a hold of Ichi Yamada. He still has the Hobie Outfitter Tandem that we bought together. |
