SD Bay 5/18

The day started late for me. I was hoping to be on the water at 0800 and it ended up being around 1100ish. I got the SI launch and was met with an abundant amount of sail boats and winds blowing harder than forecasted. My goal for the day, pick up a couple legal halibut. I made my way all the way to the end of the bay fighting the wind and getting drenched in the process. I started with a 6" swim bait then down sized to a 5". I was getting a lot of racked baits, so I switched over to a 4" and found the lizard fish. After a few hours I switched it up and went to search for some sandbass. It did not take long to start pulling them in. Fished for about 20 minutes then met up at the beach with ReelAnxious and visited a while. Ended getting back on the water about 16:15 and went back to hammering the bass and sculpin. Around 1800 the tide went completely slack along with the bite. About 1930 things started to pick back up and started catching some nice sandbass. About 2030 I hooked into the last fish of the night thinking it was a decent halibut. It ended up being a toad of sandbass. It pulled me around for a little sleigh ride. I took a few pix of the bigger fish towards the end of the night. I hope you all enjoy. The bite is still hot and won't last much longer with the water warming up. You need get out there!

The picture doesn't do justice for this fish. It was 21 1/2" and felt like and look like it had a brick in its belly. This thing was every bit of 6lb. I caught a few more footballs.

The other two photo'd where in the 4lb class. It was a fun, but short night of hard fighting bass.

The fish won't bite as much once the water warms up? What is fishing the bay like during the summer?

The bite is good, you just see way more spotted bass vs Sand Bass. They seem to get a little sluggish. The smaller ones however don't seem to mind so much though. The best months for me personally are between, late October to March.

Jeff, you are on fire with the bass.

With the right set up, these things provide an incredibly fun experience.

Thank you for posting up.
