Start with a JBL 6' pole and a slip tip. Get used to the dynamics of hand eye coordination in the water. In the event you start tagging larger species later on.... you'll appreciate starting at LvL 1.

Maybe start out with "Hawaiian Slings" their quite easy to trans port & shoot.Use a 3-prong tip.Very easy to pull back & shoot.Check your local dive shop & Sport Chalet.Good luck & B-safe

I find everyone calls a polespear a Hawaiian sling around here. A sling is made like a slingshot and is not practical in our murky waters as you'd lose all your shafts.
The Pinder brothers were known as the kings of sling and made them popular back in the 50's making the cover of Sports Illustrated.

You can't go wrong with the Riffe Guns. But I prefer the Steve Alexander gun but could be spendy! Here is the Riffe Island gun, my first real spear gun.

Riffe Guns are the best. I've shot many large WSB in LJ with one.

Seems they are everywhere
