LB wall

hit up LB wall, launched around 6 am lots of bait in the water, dolphins jumping. The calicos and sandies seemed to like the white leadheads and MC in brown and gold slathered in unibutter. All day it was overcast and a few sprinkles here and there, the ocean was calm and flat with a decent current, and a light breeze. final count was 3 Calico and 4 sandies off the water by 2 pm.

Was out there today too. Great weather, poor hali fishing.

Got a few calicos and sandies as bycatch.

I was out there too fishing around the oil islands. Ended up catching 15+ small sculpins, 10+ lizards and 5 bass.

Cool, I would like to hit the LB wall. I had some buddies who fish it out of their boat and kill the sandbass on some of their custom colored baits.

Nice.. sounds like there was a BWE outing in the LBC. Where did you launch? I know I can get to the wall from Mother's Beach. Just wondering if it's worth it to try launching from 72nd street instead. Looks like it's be closer, but I know there's usually a huge sand berm there. Thanks for the report!

PS.. does anyone use bait there? I thought there was a bait barge out near the wall?

I didn't see any other kayaks, mothers is way too far for me, I park on ocean and launch right in front of chaffee island. There is a concrete path the goes from the street to about 50 yards from the water at low tide.

I've been out once to the Oil Islands and I think just driving and parking at Belmont Pier is the way to go (there are probably better spots to launch from too), pay my parking with a credit card and you're only a hundred yards from the water at most. Mother's Beach adds an extra ~1 mile of water travel compared to a pier launch if you're going to the breakwall according to Google Maps.
