Shelter Island - Pt. Loma 02.27.07
I wanted to fish today and I knew a storm was coming. I'm already on the Freeway, dealing with
traffic and rain and LCII calls to tell me he's bailing on fishing today. Given that it's taken me nearly an hour to get to Pt. Loma, I decide to hit SquidCo. I ended up buying 14 new plastics, just to try new colors, so I had to go out today. I paddled out in what didn't seem too bad. I fought a head wind as I paddled toward Pt. Loma for a halibut bite. At least the 7ft. flow high to low tide was helping me move along quite nicely. However, by the time I got around Ballast Point, the wind was really whipping and the rain was falling. I'm so glad I had on my foul weather gear. I was actually toasty. I paddled all the way out to the ocean near the tip of Pt. Loma. I was hoping to fish the shallows for the 'butt bite, but it wasn't happening. Too much wind and rain. I was quickly blown over to Zuniga Jetty. Next I fought my way to the West side of the bay so I could get out of the wind and rain. After 2 hours and 25 minutes of non-stop paddling (from when I left Shelter Island), I finally made it back to some shelter from the wind. I was still only at Ballast Point, but at least I was right next to the sausage barricades. Soon the wind subsided and the sun came out, so I paddled North past the bait docks. I was finally able to begin tossing my plastics around without getting blown back out to sea. I was excited to try some of the new plastics, but I had a Pearl grub on one rod and a Black grub on the other. I tossed those while I got out the new stuff and BANG!! I got hit on the white grub. Nice little fight for this guy. Once I got him to the yak, I found that I had a nice sized Barred Sand Bass. Barred Sand Bass - 3lbs. 12oz - 18.75in. I tossed plastic for another 35 minutes and called it a day. Time to pick the kids up from school. The sun was out and the wind had subsided. What a great day! |

Wavster,
I'm just goofing around. Not trying to piss anyone off. I just got back from a ~15 hour car ride where we caught fish smaller than that in some really nice conditions. Who is doing the report? threadjack over. Whenever I read anyones report I always wish I was on the water instead of working.

Adi, you're classier than that.
I don't want to tick anyone off either, and I can appreciate some ribbing, but if you don't know me or I don't know you, it comes off as arrogance. I fish for my own enjoyment, not for anyone else's. I also don't need it for food, so I release most of what I catch. FWIW, I went out today to test some new colors, stormy conditions and to check out a couple of "new" spots. Some of you guys crack me up. If this is your claim to fame, you're lame. I'm just talking about the elitists who take this all too seriously. MadScientist, I get the impression you are trying to insult me. You know, the ironic thing is, I stuck up for you this morning... and I don't even know you. I stuck up for your right to catch and keep as much as you want. If you want to insult me, do it in person, not behind some muppet avatar. Besides, I might just paddle up next to you and park in "your" spot at LJ and fish for surf perch with my Popiel's Pocket Fisherman. |
