USAA agrees to insure HDS5

For you military and dependants. This might come in handy.

After a long winded, research intensive conversation with an underwriter at USAA, I finally got them to agree (in writing) to qualify the HDS under my "computer" insurance policy.
I already had a flat rate policy with them for $10,000 to insure my MacBooks and home PCs so I didn't have to pay an increase, but I think I pay $7/mo for the policy. But if you're just insuring the HDS it will be cheaper.

While the protection plan from West Marine is cheaper at $77/ 3 years it eventually expires. The insurance policy is good for as long as you want it. It also covers theft, which WM won't.

Hope this helps some of you. If you're not with USAA, at least call your insurer and ask. It can't hurt

USAA is the bomb. you can set up renters insurance tonight and pour a glass of water on your laptop 5 mins later and claim it and get a direct deposit in 24hours.

they even cover cleaning service costs when you move out of military housing.

I was just thinking about giving them a call to see about adding my new PA14 and HDS 7 to my policy. Good ammo there for the conversation.
USAA is awesome - they covered a piece of test equipment under my computer policy, because it required the computer to operate. Nobody else would have done that...

The maximum they will insure a kayak for is $1000, I've been jumping through that hoop for over a year.

As far as the HDS goes, you just need to explain that data can be transferred from the unit to the computer and that the unit accepts connections from other electronics that are currently authorized to be insured through USAA. You're more than welcome to reference me. PM me and I'll help you best I can.
