Oceanside beach info
This Sunday I will be doing my first surf launch in Oceanside. What I would like to know is what I could catch out just past the surf without going to one of the reefs further offshore. I would expect the normal surf species such as Halibut, croakers, ect. What other species such as maybe sand bass or calicos can be caught near shore and how could I target them. Any input is apreciated.

Diving around there, just past the surf I see lots of bass (usually short) little swimbaits are always a good place to start

Thanks. I always hear about people getting bycatch when surf fishing for Halibuts when casting very far away from the beach. I was curious what this might be since those species will be hanging out where I will be paddling.
