Newport Harbor and Vicinity
Fished Newport Harbor this past Wednesday from 6am - 12pm.
Trolled the entirety of the harbor with a Carolina rig with some smelt I caught near the docks by the pavilion. Casted to and fro the moorings and docks with hi-lo rigs baited with squid and also used spinner-baits and big hammer jigs. Also attempted areas near the shoals, pilings, and areas near the bridges. Unfortunately, the bite seemed to be off, and the spotties, halis, and other species just didn't want to play with this yak angler. Despite this, I still got a good upper body workout, and enjoyed the time on the water. Thinking about trying some of the LB and Redondo areas next week... maybe combine with a hooping session. |

I'll report back tomorrow. They should be by now.
Also, fishing inside the harbor requires a very light line usually. I'll use 6lb mono most of the time. Theres almost no structure in there, minus what you see on the surface. Not sure what you used, but hopefully that helps for next time. Thanks for the report, and
